- Before You Start !
- ------------------
-
- Thank you for purchasing Active Media Eclipse, v.4.1
-
- This readme file contains important information for the installation ( from both CD-ROM
- and self-extracting zip file downloaded from the Internet ), registration and use of
- Active Media Eclipse, v.4.1.
-
-
-
- What Is Active Media Eclipse ?
- ------------------------------
-
- Active Media Eclipse is a professional screen saver toolkit that allows the creation and
- distribution of state-of-the-art Windows 95, 98 and NT 4 ( 32bit ) screen savers with no
- programming. Pre-written transitions allow you to apply your own images, video and audio
- clips whilst the creation wizard takes you through the simple process of creating and
- packaging the screen saver prior to distribution by floppy disk, CD-ROM, Zip Disk,
- Internet et al.
-
- Up to ten self contained modules can be sequence together using your own images and audio
- clips to create a custom screen saver. Created screen savers are fully compressed,
- optimised and completely 'stand alone'; they do not require any runtime component to be
- distributed along with the screen saver or previously installed on a target computer.
- Active Media Eclipse created screen savers are installed automatically into the Windows
- control panel by the user running the screen saver setup wizard 'setup.exe', this unpacks
- everything that is required in order to run the screen saver and makes it the Windows default.
-
-
-
- Requirements For Installation
- -----------------------------
-
- This applies only to the PC that is used to create the screen savers.
-
- o Microsoft Windows 95, 98 or NT 4 operating system
- o Pentium 166mhz or better
- o 32mb of RAM
- o 30mb of spare disk
- Note. Only 20mb is required if the Picture Gallery is not installed.
- o CD-ROM drive
- o S-VGA display adapter Must run at 800x600 resolution or greater
- o Small font character set
- o Mouse or other pointing device
-
-
- Please note that the actual size of the created screen saver is dependent on the number
- of different images, movie or animation files used plus any audio clips that may be used.
-
-
-
- Internet versus CD-ROM Version Of Active Media Eclipse
- ------------------------------------------------------
-
- The version of Active Media Eclipse v.4.1 shipped on CD-ROM includes components, which have
- been omitted from the version on the Active Media Technology website to reduce the size of
- the self-extracting file and hence download times.
-
- The functionality of the Internet and CD-ROM version is identical, but the Internet version
- omits the following non-essential files:
-
- o Active Media Eclipse introduction video sequence
- o Example transition demonstration modules
- o Sample audio files
- o Reduced number of sample graphic files
- o No Active Media Technology commercial screen savers are included
- o No Active Media Eclipse created sample screen savers are included
- o The full picture gallery native files
- o The full picture gallery installation mechanism
- o Active Media NetEclipse installation mechanism
-
-
- Sample project and data modules ( CD-ROM only ) are intended to quickly demonstrate the
- power of Active Media Eclipse and/or a particular transition effect and how these inter -
- relate in order to give you some ideas on how to create stunning screen savers.
- This is a great way of learning and Active Media Technology do recommend that you take
- the time to have a look at the samples and demonstrations provided on the CD-ROM.
- Sample project files are located in the 'Sample' folder from the main 'Projects' folder,
- these include both single transition projects ( in order to demonstrate a transition effect )
- and multiple module projects. These should be opened in the usual way and the 'Preview Screen
- Saver' button clicked on the toolbar.
-
- Both the contents of the 'Sample Projects' and 'Demonstration' folders can be safely
- removed to save space if you wish.
-
-
-

- extracting zip file which is available from the Active Media Technology Internet website.
- and been created using InstallShield Pro for trouble free installation.

- applications are closed down. If you fail to observe this, you may experience
- problems when you try and run Active Media Eclipse for the first time.
-
- 1. Double-click on the self-extracting zip file to initiate the installation process.
-
- 2. Follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation process.
-
-
-
- Upgrading From Previous Versions Of Active Media Eclipse
- --------------------------------------------------------
-
- Active Media Eclipse version 4.1.x is a new release and requires that a new licence code
- is issued by Active Media Technology prior to use. The licence file is now called
- 'Eclipse4.ecl' to distinguish itself from the previous v.3.0 version which was called
- 'Eclipse.ecl'. Please note that renaming the old licence file will not work.
-
- You should note that unlike v.2.12 and v.3.0x, Active Media Eclipse only produces 32bit
- screen savers, it cannot create screen savers for Windows 3.x. If you want this facility,
- you should purchase a copy of Active Media Eclipse v.3.0.
-
- Active Media Technology recommends that any previous versions of Active Media Eclipse are
- de-installed prior to installation of v.4.0, however, as this version installs by default into
- a separate folder than previous versions, both versions can co-exist.
-
- The latest service packs and release can be obtained from the Active Media Technology FTP
- site 'ftp://ftp.active-media-online.com'
-
-
- Removing Active Media Eclipse After Installation
- ------------------------------------------------
-
- Active Media Eclipse is shipped with an uninstall mechanism, that will remove the product
- from your PC should you wish to do so.
-
- 1. Click on the Windows 'Start' button.
-
- 2. Select the 'Settings' option from the menu.
-
- 3. Select the 'Control Panel' option from the menu.
-
- 4. Double-click on the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon from within the Control Panel.
-
- 5. Select 'Active Media Eclipse' from the list of programs and click on the Add/Remove
- button.
-
- 6. Click on the 'Yes' button to confirm the deletion request, Active Media Eclipse will
- then be removed.
-
-
-
- Troubleshooting Installation Problems
- -------------------------------------
-
-
- Other Applications Open When Installing
-
- When installing Active Media Eclipse, ensure that absolutely no other applications
- are open including shortcut toolbars such as Microsoft Office. If other applications
- are left open then all of the files that Active Media Eclipse needs to install and run
- may not be copied correctly. Out of all problems reported to Active Media Technology,
- open problems upon installation is the main cuprit.
-
-
- A 3000 Series Error Message Is Reported Upon Startup
-
- This is almost certainly due to the fact that other applications were open when
- Active Media Eclipse was installed. De-install Active Media Eclipse using the Windows
- 'Add/Remove Programs' facility from the control panel, close down Windows and re-start.
- Close down any applications that may have started automatically as part of the Windows
- load sequence and then attempt to re-install Active Media Eclipse. If you experience
- further problems, please contact Active Media Technology Technical Support.
-
-
- Reboot Windows After Installation
-
- Always reboot Windows after installation, this ensures that all Active Media Eclipse
- components will be registered with Windows correctly.
-
-
- Problems Reported During Installation
-
- Active Media Eclipse uses InstallShield to perform the installation, if the mechanism
- issues error messages whilst the installation process is taking place such as failing,
- to register an ActiveX control ( .ocx ) please do not ignore them and then expect Active
- Media Eclipse to work correctly. Try and resolve the problem, close any open
- applications and attempt to re-install, if the problem persists contact Active Media
- Technical support. The contact details are at the bottom of this 'readme' file.
-
-
- Only The Eclipse Tray Icon Appears
-
- If there has been problem registering ActiveX controls ( .ocx ), when Active Media
- Eclipse is run, the Eclipse tray icon appear and then apparently Active Media Eclipse
- goes no further. If this happens, de-install Active Media Eclipse using the Windows
- Control panel 'Add/Remove Programs' and re-install ensuring all applications are
- closed down prior to installation.
-
-
-
- Terminology
- -----------
-
- In order to avoid confusion he is a brief list of terminology that used in this 'read me'
- document viz:
-
- AMT Active Media Technology Limited
-
- Eclipse Generic reference to Active Media Eclipse, v.2.x, v.3.x, v.4.x
-
- Effect See 'Transition' below.
-
- Module A single transition is selected and applied to a module. Multiple
- modules are sequenced together in order to create a screen saver.
-
- Module Library A generic reference to a folder containing saved modules.
-
- Project Screen saver project. This contains all of the modules and their
- properties and settings along with other information such as the
- screen saver title. A screen saver project is effectively 'the
- definition' of the screen saver.
-
- Transition A pre-written effect which has properties and settings which can be
- adjusted by the user. For example, 3d Cube has properties for the
- width, height and depth of the cube.
-
-
-
- Sample Screen Saver Project Files
- ---------------------------------
-
- Active Media Eclipse is shipped with a small number of sample graphics and project files for
- the purpose of example. Sample screen saver project files are located in a folder called
- 'Samples' off the main 'Projects' folder and demonstrate the use of some of the transitions
- included in Active Media Eclipse.
-
- The sample projects deliberately use the same few graphical images in order to demonstrate
- how they may be used in different situations and transitions.
-
- The sample project files assume that Active Media Eclipse has been installed into the default
- location of 'c:\program files\active media technology\eclipse', if an alternative location has
- been selected during installation then when the projects are loaded the graphics will not be
- found and the transition effect will not be able to be previewed.
-
-
-
- Distributing Screen Savers Created By Active Media Eclipse
- ----------------------------------------------------------
-
- Distribute the file ( by default called ) 'setup.exe' only; this file can be renamed as
- desired either manually or via the Creation Wizard. This is the user setup wizard file
- and is a self-installing, compressed file. All contents are encrypted to safeguard integrity
- and restrict unauthorised access
-
- This file may be included in a zip archive if required, however please note that as it is
- already fully compressed using a further compression program such as WinZip may in fact
- increase the size of the file.
-
-
-
- Removing Active Media Eclipse Created Screen Savers
- ---------------------------------------------------
-
- Active Media Eclipse created screen savers have an uninstall mechanism that will remove them
- if required.
-
- 1. Click on the Windows 'Start' Button.
-
- 2. Select the 'Settings' option from the menu.
-
- 3. Select the 'Control Panel' option from the menu.
-
- 4. Double-click on the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon from within the Control Panel.
-
- 5. Select the name of the screen saver that you wish to uninstall and click on the
- 'Add/Remove' button.
-
- 6. Cick on the 'Yes' button to confirm the deletion request, the screen saver well be
- then be removed.
-
- If the screen saver has installed a Windows un-installation desktop icon, then this may be
- used to remove the screen saver. Please note this is an optional facility which is specified
- by the creator of the screen saver and therefore may not be present.
-
-
-

-
-
- Registration Procedure
- ----------------------
-
- When you install Active Media Eclipse, the software will automatically configure itself
- as a 'Personal Edition', you will be prompted to enter a registered user and organisation
- ( if any ). This edition allows you to create screen savers for the registered PC only.
-
- For a period of fifteen days from the date of installation, features found in
- the 'Developer Edition' may be trialed, this allows the creation of 'spoilt' screen
- savers that can be distributed to other computers. Please note that screen savers created
- under the Developer trial will be visually 'spoilt' and automatically disable themselves after
- 10 previews.
-
- In order to create and distribute screen savers unhindered, you must register your copy
- of Active Media Eclipse with Active Media Technology; upon registering you will receive
- a licence code that will 'unlock' the software. Regrettably, we have been forced to
- implement this procedure to guard against the unlicenced copying of Active Media Eclipse
- and would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience caused.
-
- If you have purchased your copy through a retail channel, then you need only register;
- if you have downloaded the Personal Edition or Evaluation copy from the Active Media
- Technology website then you may purchase and register at the same time.

- Active Media Technology can write a custom transition to your own requirements however
- complex. Please contact customer services for further details.

- Active Media Eclipse v.3.0x Project Files
- -----------------------------------------
-
- It is not possible to read Active Media Eclipse v.3.0x screen saver project files within
- v.4.0x due to the introduction of transition multi-sequencing. We regret that for the
- same reason that there is not a conversion utility either.
-
-
-
- 32bit Screen Savers
- -------------------
-
- Active Media Eclipse v.4.x can only create true 32bit Windows screen savers, if you
- wish to create 16bit screen savers which suitable for running under Windows 3.x, then
- you need to purchase a copy of Active Media Eclipse v.3.0x. An evaluation copy is
- available from the FTP site ( ftp.active-media-online.com/Download/Eclipse30.exe )
-
-
-
- Transition Expansion Packs
- --------------------------
-
- Active Media Eclipse can be extended by the purchase of 'themed' expansion packs,
- for example, games, mathematically modelled objects etc. These packs simply increase
- the number of transitions that are available which can be used in the modules in order
- to create your screen savers.
